You know what one of the worst things ever is?
When you’re busy, maybe you spend a couple hours at work, then run a bunch of errands, and before you know it, it’s 3 pm, you haven’t eaten since breakfast, and the hangry-monster is at full force.
Oh no…. Just me?
Sometimes *cough, a lot, cough* I forget to plan ahead, I don’t think I’m going to be gone as long as I am, and then, boom, hangry.
When I first started eating Paleo, the thing I had the hardest time with? snacks! I love snacks, but pre-Paleo, I ate a lot of pretzels, peanut butter, protein bars, and other no-nos for my tummy. All my meals were simple enough, because at home, I can easily control the ingredients. But send me out for six hours and expect me to find a snack without a hungry breakdown? Not happenin’. I quickly realized that bringing food with me is essential for me to stay happy and healthy and to avoid relapsing into less-ideal foods out of desperation. Here are some of my favorite Paleo snacks!
I love Larabars. No added sugar and only real food ingredients? Yes please. My favorites are cherry pie and apple pie.
So easy, so delicious. I love buying mine at Trader Joe’s because they offer several varieties in unsweetened and unsulfured, which is (surprisingly) hard to find!
FRUIT & NUT BUTTER
Is there even a better combo than these two things?? I really don’t think so. If I’m gonna be gone for a long day, I love bringing a banana or apple (with a knife!) plus a portable nut butter to tide me over until my next meal. I especially love Justin’s and Wild Friends almond butters.
Baby carrots, snap peas, and cherry tomatoes are all perfectly portable ways to sneak an extra serving of veggies in your day. I like to bring along a little container of homemade guac to dip them in 🙂
TRAIL MIX & GRANOLA
Yum! Just be sure to keep it light on the chocolate 🙂 I love mixing raw nuts, toasted coconut, and raisins for an easy on-the-go snack, or a little container of my homemade grain-free granola.
While I’m definitely not an advocate of drinking your calories, I know water gets super boring sometimes. So, if I’m adding some flavorful drinks into my diet, I like to at least pick some with health benefits. I looooove kombucha, particularly GT’s Synergy. Lots of good bacteria makes for a happy tummy! I’ve also been loving Rebbl drinks lately, after discovering them at my local health food store – they contain adaptogens, which are believed to reduce stress and increase your immune system (plus more!). The maca cold brew and ashwagandha chai are so. good.
