Hello friends! Today I’m talking about the new Pacifica Crystal Matrix eyeshadow palette that I was lucky enough to win in an instagram giveaway. I’m not usually a huge eyeshadow wearer, but I’ve been getting much more interested in makeup lately so this came at just the right time. Have you seen this palette yet? It has 10 shades, all of them with a shimmer finish (so you shine like a crystal, or something like that). I was a little iffy about the shimmer finish of them all, probably due to flashbacks of when I first started wearing makeup in high school and had no idea how to do it, and would usually top off my look with a mountain of glitter. Because, you know, mid 2000s fashion was fantastic. (or not)
Over the last six or so months, I’ve made it a priority to start focusing on a natural approach to skin care and cosmetics. I’ve been prioritizing skin care, because when your skin is glowing, you don’t feel like you need to cover it up with makeup (but if you wanna rock a full face, you do you boo). I’ve already shared my daily skin care routine, but what about the extras? I’m a sucker for a good face mask, especially when it’s full of good-for-your-skin ingredients like this Andalou Naturals Glycolic Mask.
Ahhhh, crispy asian shrimp bowls. This is one of my absolute faves right now. These bowls are a spin off of my asian shrimp tacos, which are really good, but I don’t usually eat tortillas, so eventually the tacos transformed into: the crispy asian shrimp bowl. I took a snapchat of these and shared it with some of my coworkers and multiple people asked me for the recipe, so I figured I’d share!
Think brown rice for the base, topped with creamy lime cole slaw, crispy shrimp, and a sauce that’s sticky, a lil sweet, and a lil spicy. Top it off with some crunchies (cause you can’t have a good bowl without some crunchies!) in the form of chopped peanuts, sesame seeds, or whatever else you desire. Continue reading
I don’t know if there is anything more frustrating than adult acne. I mean, I went through high school with clear, blemish-free skin, and as soon as I hit 18 or 19 I started having awful breakouts! What a blow to your self-esteem, am I right?

Before I started eating Paleo, I had never cooked chicken thighs. I just grew up with a chicken-breast-loving-mama who got it in my head that the breast is the best. Upon branching out in cooking, I’ve realized the truth: dark meat is da bomb (sorry mom!). I’ve started cooking with mostly chicken thighs and legs in the past 8 or so months, and I love it. There’s nothing better than a nice, crispy, pan-fried chicken thigh with some good seasonings on top and a lot of juiciness in the middle, especially when you pair it with sauteed mushrooms and a rich balsamic sauce.
Just checking in with a quick health update. As some of you may know, I’ve been on a long journey to figure out the cause behind my chronic stomach pain, digestive issues, nausea, acne, and gum problems, among other symptoms. In my last update I shared that my doctor was going to be testing me for celiac, leaving me eating gluten for three painful weeks. The test came back negative, but I definitely have a poor reaction to gluten (acne, stomach pain, constipation, bloating), so I’m back on that gluten free train and feeling a little better.
Hey friends! I did it! 30 days (well, technically 40, bc I forgot to take my ‘before’ pic until ten days in…. so I had to restart my count) without using any heat on my hair – no blowdryer, no flat iron, no curling wand, nada. I’ve noticed a huge difference in the health of my hair, which definitely motivates me to continue using little-to-no heat on my hair. I think if I keep this up, drink my collegen powder, and get regular trims I’ll have some pretty long hair by this time next year 🙂 Well, long by my standards at least.Continue reading
I’ve heard that one thing a lot of people struggle with when they first start eating Paleo is what to have for breakfast. Out go the cereal and the toast and oatmeal and waffles, leaving you with…. eggs? What if you don’t like eggs? Or are allergic? Or after a month you’ve started just about gagging looking at an egg, thinking, please don’t make me eat eggs again this morning noooooooo…
Thankfully for myself, I don’t really get tired of eggs, but even so, I like to mix it up every once in a while and have something else. Paleo-fied granola is the perfect answer to your breakfast problem: healthier than traditional granola (no refined sugar, no grains), very filling (lots of fat from the nuts + coconut oil, a little boost of energy with the raisins + maple syrup), and super delicious. I like mixing my Paleo cinnamon raisin granola with fruit (apple, pomegranate aerils, or strawberries are my top choices) and topping with almond milk, but feel free to try it with some coconut yogurt (or your favorite yogurt). as a topping for a smoothie, or just by the handful 🙂 However you like your granola, I think you’ll find this one pretty hard to resist!

Since I last gave a health update, I spent a few months not really moving forward with anything. Then, in the last month or two, with the help of my coworker, have been doing some research into autoimmune disorders wondering if that could be the cause of my problems. A lot of symptoms matched up with several autoimmune disorders: my swollen, painful gums, joint pain, fatigue, dizziness, tingling hands, the list goes on. One disorder we kept coming back to: SLE, more commonly referred to as Lupus.
Hello friends! It’s been a fucking minute, hasn’t it? My apologies, it’s just that winter is stealing my soul and with it all my inspiration and ambition. I am 100% absolutely ready for Spring. One thing that’s been inspiring me so much lately, though? HAIR. All the hair. My hair is something of a hot mess right now, but I’m feeling very hopeful about what the future holds for my hair and how I’ll get there. This past year, I’ve made a few (beautiful) hair mistakes, which only makes me reflect on the past 10 years’ worth of (not always beautiful) hair mistakes and finally, what I’ve learned. Mostly what-not-to-do’s. I think we all have a few of those, am I right?
My hair journey has been colorful, damaging, and impulsive. I love dying my hair, I love bright colors, I love it all, but back in 2007-2011, I wasn’t super familiar with how it all works and why was my hair falling out??? Since then, I’ve learned a lot about bleach, toner (what an amazing thing, that you don’t have to bleach the literal shit out of your hair to get it that blonde??), and more. I’ve decided to quit bleaching my hair for awhile, as heartbroken as I am not to be bright and beautifully blonde anymore, I know I need to do it for the health of my hair. I’ve also decided to quit using any heat tools on my hair for a while; 10 days into my no-heat plan and my hair is already looking so much healthier.
