Back in September, J and I (plus Chester) went on our annual road trip – this year, we decided to drive to Colorado! Round trip we totaled approximately 3300 miles (give or take a few hundred) in 7 days. Chester was an excellent co-pilot, as per usual, my new car was comfortable and excellent to drive, the weather was perfect! We had a great time.
J and I both really like ghost towns, so I tried to scope out a few in advance and add them in where it was convenient on the trip. We only made it to one, St. Elmo, Colorado, but it was well worth the out-of-the-way drive to get there.
St. Elmo was a small mining town at a 9000+ foot elevation and is the best preserved ghost town in Colorado. They still have an operating general store, as well as a sort of vintage outdoor flea market with some interesting relics and knick-knacks. We spent a few hours here, exploring around all the buildings and looking through the vintage market, and my personal highlight: a chipmunk ate seeds out of my hand! They were super friendly lil guys, one girl was there feeding them and they were crawling all over her. Unfortunately, Chester wanted to bark at them and chase them so we couldn’t get a picture of that. O well.
